For Australian Tradies & Local Service Businesses
A Google Ads Agency That Reports in Booked Jobs, Not Clicks
Most accounts don't fail on bidding. They fail on the settings nobody changed, the search terms nobody read and the calls nobody tracked. That's the work.
Straight through to the person who'd actually do the work — no call centre.
Hiring a Google Ads agency should buy you one thing: more booked jobs for the same spend. Not a nicer report, not more clicks. The gap between an account that books work and one that quietly burns money is rarely clever bidding. It's whether someone does the unglamorous maintenance every week.
What You're Actually Paying an Agency For
Setting up a campaign takes an afternoon. What costs money is everything after it:
- Reading the search terms report. Every week, the list of what people actually typed before clicking your ad. This is where the waste shows up, and it's the report most accounts never open.
- Building the negative keyword list. Job seekers, DIY guides, cheap and free searches, the suburb you don't service. Every one of those clicks is paid for.
- Keeping location targeting honest. Google's default shows your ads to anyone interested in your area, not just people in it. On a local budget, that default alone can eat a big share of the spend.
- Tracking calls, not just forms. For most trades, the best leads never touch the website. They tap the number and call. If calls aren't tracked, the account is being run blind.
If an agency's proposal doesn't mention those four things, it's describing a setup fee, not management.
Five Questions to Ask Any Google Ads Agency
Before you sign with anyone, including us, get straight answers to these:
- Whose name is the ad account in? It should be yours, on your card. If the agency owns it, you lose the history when you leave.
- How long is the contract? A good agency keeps clients by producing results, not by lock-in clauses. We're month to month.
- How is the fee charged? A flat fee or a percentage of spend? A percentage of spend rewards the agency for spending more of your money, whether or not it books more work. Ours is flat.
- What's in the monthly report? You want calls, enquiries and cost per enquiry. A report of impressions and clicks tells you what you spent, not what you earned.
- Who actually does the work? Ask who reads your search terms each week and how long they spend on your account.
How We Run an Account
Tracking first. Call tracking and form tracking are installed and tested before a dollar is spent. Without them, there's nothing to optimise against.
Tight match types to start. Exact and phrase match on the searches that book work, so every search term you pay for is visible and can be cut if it doesn't convert. Broad match comes later, if at all, once the account has data.
Negatives built before launch. The obvious waste gets blocked on day one, not after the budget is gone.
Location set to presence, not interest. Your ads show to people in your real service area, not people who once looked at it.
Call assets and your Google Business Profile linked. Your number shows in the ad, and a linked Business Profile lets the ad appear on Maps.
A landing page that converts. Sending paid clicks to a slow homepage is one of the most expensive mistakes in an account. If your site isn't built to turn a visitor into a call, we fix that first.
Follow-up that catches the misses. A paid click that rings out to voicemail is money spent on a worse result than not advertising. Missed-call text-back replies to the caller before they ring the next business on the list.
What Google Ads Actually Costs
Two numbers matter: your cost per click, and how many clicks it takes to get an enquiry.
Clicks are set by the auction, not by the agency. In the regional Queensland trade accounts we manage, clicks have averaged about $2.30–$3.30. Metro areas and competitive categories cost more, often several times that, because more businesses are bidding with bigger job values behind them.
That's why the budget conversation should start with what a job is worth to you, not with what an agency suggests. Our Google Ads ROI calculator works out what you can afford to pay per click and still profit. It takes about a minute.
Below roughly $600 a month in ad spend, expect a test, not a lead machine. We'd rather say that before you start than manage your disappointment afterwards.
Google Ads or SEO?
They do different jobs. Ads buy the top of the page today and stop the moment you stop paying. SEO takes three to six months to produce steadily and keeps working after. If you need work this month, start with ads and build search visibility underneath, so you're not renting your leads forever. The longer version is in our Google Ads vs SEO guide.

Talk It Through First
A 20-minute call will tell you whether Google Ads makes sense for your business at all. Sometimes the answer is no, and you'll hear that straight. If it's yes, you'll leave the call knowing the budget, the fee and what the first month looks like.
No lock-in contracts
We build what works, and you stay because it does. Leave whenever you like.
You talk to the operator
The person who builds your system is the person who answers the phone. No junior account manager.
Live in 2–3 weeks
From brief to launch, once your content's sorted. We handle the build — you review and approve.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a Google Ads agency cost?+
There are two separate costs and you should always see them separately. The ad spend goes to Google, on your card. The management fee goes to the agency. Be wary of any quote that bundles the two, because you can't tell how much of your money is reaching Google. Our fee is flat, not a percentage of your ad spend, and our plans are published on our homepage. We'll also tell you the minimum sensible ad budget for your trade and area before you sign anything.
Is Google AdWords the same as Google Ads?+
Yes. Google renamed AdWords to Google Ads in 2018. An AdWords agency and a Google Ads agency are the same service. Some businesses still search for the old name, and some agencies still use it.
Do I own the Google Ads account?+
You should, and with us you do. The account is created in your name with your card on it. If you ever stop working with us you keep the account, the conversion history and everything the campaigns have learned. An agency that owns your ad account owns your leverage.
How long before Google Ads produces leads?+
Ads show the day they go live, and most local service accounts see real enquiries within the first week or two. The first couple of weeks are a learning phase: the account needs data before changes mean anything. Most accounts are damaged by impatience in that window, not by bad setup.
Should I hire an agency or run Google Ads myself?+
If you'll read your search terms report every week, build a negative keyword list and set up call tracking properly, you can run a small local account yourself. Most business owners won't, because they're on the tools. That weekly maintenance is most of what you're paying an agency for. If a quote doesn't include it, it isn't management.
What do you report on?+
Calls, form enquiries and cost per enquiry, with call tracking installed before launch. Clicks and impressions are in there, but they measure spending, not earning. If your current report doesn't show how many calls the ads produced, nobody can tell you whether it's working.
Do you only work with trades?+
Mostly trades and local service businesses, because the whole process is built around phone calls and service areas. If you're outside that, ask. We'll tell you straight if we're not the right fit.
