The honest guide

How to stop telemarketing calls — from a company that makes calls

Yes, we do outreach calls to local businesses. And yes, this is a guide to Australia's Do Not Call Register. If you don't want telemarketing calls on your personal number, this is exactly how you stop them — properly and for free.

1

Register online or by phone — it's free

Go to donotcall.gov.au and enter your number, or call 1300 792 958 from the number you want to register. Registration is free, run by the Australian Government (ACMA), and never expires once listed.

2

Allow up to 30 days

Telemarketers have 30 days from your registration date to update their calling lists. Calls received inside that window aren't breaches — after 30 days, they are.

3

Report calls that continue

If telemarketing calls keep coming after 30 days, complain to ACMA at acma.gov.au (search "telemarketing complaint") with the date, time and caller details. ACMA can and does fine breaching companies.

Quick reference

What the register doesn't cover

  • Business numbers — the register only accepts numbers used primarily for personal use. Business-to-business calls are legal and not covered.
  • Charities, registered political parties, and social/market research calls are exempt by law.
  • Companies you have an existing relationship with (e.g. your bank or phone provider) can still call unless you opt out with them directly.

Our own policy

If we've called you and you'd rather not hear from us again, you don't need a register — just say so, or text "REMOVE" to 0468 164 470. You're off our list the same day, permanently. We'd rather talk to people who want to hear from us.
